Our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) program at Experience MMA is built on a structured, progressive approach to grappling that emphasizes understanding, efficiency, and real-world application. While rooted in traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, our teaching focuses on developing students who can move fluidly between positions, solve problems under pressure, and apply their skills effectively in live situations.

Rather than teaching techniques in isolation, we emphasize positional awareness, transitions, and decision-making, helping students develop a deeper understanding of how Jiu-Jitsu actually works — not just what to do, but why and when to do it.

This is part of what defines our approach at Experience MMA — Experience the Difference.

Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals

The Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals classes are designed to provide students with a strong technical foundation, regardless of prior experience. These classes focus on teaching all the essential positions and core techniques of Jiu-Jitsu, including positional control, sweeps, submissions, escapes, and defensive concepts.

Classes may include structured warm-ups that introduce fundamental movement patterns such as shrimps, bridges, turtle turns, sit-outs, and rolls — especially when newer students are present. These movements are taught with purpose and directly connected to how they apply within Jiu-Jitsu techniques.

Instruction often includes partner drills and flow-style drills, allowing students to develop transitions between positions and begin understanding how techniques link together. When live training is included, the emphasis is typically on positional or situational sparring, giving students focused, meaningful rounds that accelerate learning. Occasional end-of-class rolling may also be included, depending on the class and student experience levels.

The goal of Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals is to build confidence, competence, and a clear understanding of the art — preparing students for long-term development and progression into advanced training.

Advanced Jiu-Jitsu

The Advanced Jiu-Jitsu classes are intended for students with experience who are ready to train in a more demanding, application-focused environment. These sessions prioritize movements and drills that transfer directly to live grappling, rather than traditional, generalized warm-ups.

Classes may begin with stand-up partner drills, progressing into takedown entries, chains, and transitions as rounds build. From there, instruction shifts to a position or theme of the day, where students may learn two or three connected technique sequences designed to address common reactions and counters.

The second half of the class is primarily dedicated to live sparring, allowing students to apply techniques under realistic conditions, develop timing and pressure awareness, and refine their ability to problem-solve during rounds.

While traditional movement drills have their place — particularly for newer students — Advanced Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes efficiency, adaptability, and performance. The focus is on preparing students to handle real resistance with composure, technical precision, and confidence.

No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu

The No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu class is offered by invitation only and is intended for students who have already developed a solid foundation through the Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals classes. Due to the faster pace and the absence of the gi, participants are expected to have a good understanding of core positions, transitions, and positional control.

The format of this class closely mirrors that of Advanced Jiu-Jitsu. Sessions typically begin with partner-based stand-up drills, including wrestling and wrestle-up work, serving as a highly transferable, sport-specific warm-up. From there, the class shifts to a focused position or situation of the day, where a small number of selected technique chains are taught in sequence. The second half of the class is dedicated to live training, allowing students to apply the material under real resistance.

This class is designed to develop a fluid, effective, and adaptable style of Jiu-Jitsu, particularly suited for modern No-Gi grappling.
